Parent/Child Relationships

Many of the data tables we deal with today fall into the category of Parent/Child relationship. A perfect example of this would be an Invoice in an accounting system. It has data from at least one parent table (Customer) and data from at least one child table (InvoiceLineItems). There can be other relationships involved as well, such as Shipping Terms, Billing Terms, Inventory Item files, and Owner Information (Sales Tax Rates and Remit Address/Phone.

While this can be done with scripts that have been developed after the CCAID book went to press, you will almost always want to dress this up with things like the customer's logo, bar-codes for items in inventory, etc.

The set of script that was used to produce this will be available in our CCAID-II  book. In that new book, we will show you how to do many of the things that we have been discussing here.
